Artist Statement: Lisu Vega is a multidisciplinary artist working with engraving, sculpture, installation, and fashion art. Her work explores ideas of sustainability, migration, memory, and identity.

Her commitment to the environment is central to her practice. She explores recycled materials to achieve a zero-waste practice while examining the relevance of traditional processes, such as some ancient techniques passed down through her Wayuu heritage (South America), in the context of contemporary art.

Almost ten years ago, Vega started The Rope Project, which has become seminal to her practice. This project was born as a painterly expression taken to the 3D space. Using poly-silk rope and her upcycling approach, Vega creates two types of pieces from the original rope material; the exterior shell transforms into wearable fashion art creations; the rope's interior is used for her sculptural and experimental weaved pieces. All pieces, wearable and sculptural, are handmade and have unique, organic forms, standing alone or interacting with other materials, such as the plexiglass of her latest collaboration with Juan Henriquez or found materials which she intervenes with photo transfers.
